How to determine the radius of a hinge

Radius corner and square corner hinges offer the same functionality. If you're installing hinges on a new door, you can simply choose the look (square or round) you prefer.

  • Can I paint my door hinges?
    Door hinges should not be painted. It ruins the integrity of the mechanism and shortens the life span of the hinge. You can buy hinges that have a primer coat of paint and can be painted with special metal paint if the paint is a must for you.
  • How are door hinges measured?
    Door hinges are measured by the dimensions when the hinge is open and lying flat. A 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" hinge will be 3 1/2" high, have a center pin and two plates that are approximately 1 1/2" wide. The common sizes for door residential door hinges are 3" and 3 1/2". They can come with both square and rounded corners.
  • What Door Hinge should I use?
    There are three things you need to consider before installing your new door hinges. The first step is to pick your finish. The second step is to pick the correct size door hinge. The last step is to pick the corner style. The options for these are 1/4" radius, 5/8" radius or square corner.  
  • How do I clean my hinges?
    Remove the hinges with a screwdriver. Soak the hinges in warm water & soap for 30 min. 
    Take the hinges out of the water and scrub with a small toothbrush. Rinse the hinges & dry using a small towel. Lastly, install the hinges back to the door.
